Snowmobiling in Island Park, Idaho
Just west of Yellowstone National Park are the world famous loop trails of the Island Park area. Here you will
find over 500 miles of groomed forested trails that provide access to mountains more than 8,000 feet high. ...not to
mention thousands of miles of backcountry riding, incredible hillclimbs and breathtaking powder bowls.
In fact, Island Park has consistently ranked in the Top 5 of the "Best in the West" places to ride by SnoWest Magazine!
Bordering West Yellowstone and the Continental Divide Trail systems, you also have access to 800 more miles
of groomed trails in Montana and Wyoming. This makes the Island Park trail system especially unique.
Popular destinations
include Big Springs, Mesa Falls, Mount Two Top, South Plateau and the Centennial Range of the Rockie
Mountains. Mount Jefferson, Yahoo Chute, Reas Peak, The Keg, Black Canyon and Lionhead are
options for the more experienced rider. Renowned Two-Top Mountain provides a spectacular view of Henry's Lake and Henry's Lake Flat.
Island Park is definitely the crown jewel of snowmobiling in Idaho!
(Many of these trails are also open for ATV riding during non-winter months.)
Idaho also requires all out-of-state snowmobilers to purchase a non-resident user permit. The cost of this sticker is $32.50 and
available at most dealers or gas stations in the area. It is good for the season anywhere else you may ride in Idaho. If you plan
to ride into Montana from Island Park, you should have a Montana non-resident
permit/sticker as well ($15)...think of it as
supporting the trail system you will be using during your visit.
A 45-mph speed limit on groomed trails is enforced.
Snowmobile rentals and guided tours are available.
Before heading out into the backcountry,
always check avalanche forecasts and current conditions. Visit IslandParkSnow.net
